All Jamie Pollard wanted to do was speak to Matt Campbell. Whether it was on the phone, in his home, via Skype or any other form of communication, Pollard was prepared to do it, just to get a feel for the Toledo football coach.
Campbell, though, rebuked every single offer, no matter the medium, until he’d guided his team through the MAC championship game, if the Rockets got that far.
It only made Pollard more resolute to get that conversation and make Campbell the football coach at Iowa State.
“Every time I ran up against that wall and was frustrated because I knew if we had to wait a week in this landscape,” Pollard said, “it probably wasn’t going to turn out the way I wanted it to turn out.
