Football: Inside the meeting where the Cyclones were told Rhoads is out

When Iowa State running back Clifford Kwaw-Mensah was summoned to a noon meeting Sunday, the last thing he expected was to be told coach Paul Rhoads was out.

The Ames native still didn’t realize what was going as he took a seat. It was only when athletic director Jamie Pollard and Rhoads spoke, saying the seventh-year coach would coach his final game against West Virginia on Saturday (11 a.m., FS1) that Kwaw-Mensah put it all together.

“Absolutely never saw any of this coming,” Kwaw-Mensah.

Rhoads was brief in his remarks, Kwaw-Mensah said. He thanked the players for everything they had done and let them know he was finding a positive from the day.
