Football: How Basketball, Xbox and ‘The Blind Side’ brought OL Udeogu to an ISU scholarship

When Oge Udeogu arrived from Nigeria the plan was to be a basketball star. It lasted all of one football practice.

“The second I started playing I realized this is for me,” Udeogu said. “I dropped basketball in a heartbeat.”

And nearly just as quickly set his sights on getting a scholarship. But first he needed to learn the sport. It’s taken the last four season, including a stop at City College of San Francisco, to reach his new goal and become a Division I football player.

Udeogu, an offensive guard, is expected to be one of five players to sign with Iowa State during the start of the December signing period today.
