Donnie Duncan, the former Iowa State football coach from 1979-82, passed away on Saturday night. Duncan was 75 years old and was battling cancer.
Duncan went 18-24-2 with the Cyclones. His 1981 team started the season 5-1-1 and was ranked as high as No. 11 in the Associated Press poll. ISU tied No. 7 Oklahoma and beat No. 8 Missouri in 1981. Duncan was also 3-1 against Iowa.
Dwayne Crutchfield and Karl Nelson earned All-American honors while playing under Duncan. He coached 10 first-team All-Big Eight players.
He resigned following the 1982 season. He would go on to become the Oklahoma athletic director from 1986-1996.
