The Joel Lanning Era at Iowa State began with a bang on Saturday night.
The Cyclones turned in a complete, dominant performance in their 24-0 win over Texas under the lights at Jack Trice Stadium. The offense hummed to the tune of 426 total yards, while the defense posted its first shutout nearly two seasons.
Lanning, in his debut start for ISU (3-5, 2-3 Big 12), completed 19 of 37 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for 64 more yards on 13 carries. On the whole, the Cyclones ran for 238 yards — 157 of which came from Mike Warren, who rushed 32 times and scored a touchdown — and held the ball for 37 minutes and 25 seconds of game time.
