The regular season has concluded, which means we are at the beginning of Transfer Portal Season, and the first Cyclone to leave is DeShawn Hanika. Hanika transferred to Iowa State from Butler Community College prior to the 2020 season, and saw minimal playing time early on while buried in the depth chart behind Charlie Kolar, Chase Allen, and Dylan Soehner.
After slow up-ticking his playing time over the next few season, Hanika was expected to be a key contributor and potential starter at tight end this season before the Iowa DCI gambling investigation caused him and a handful of other Cyclones to miss much of the offseason due to eligibility concerns and eventually miss games due to NCAA suspension.
