In a must-win situation to keep pace with the top 4 of the Big 12, Iowa State met up with Kansas in their first matchup of the season (postponed earlier in the year) in Lawrence. Kansas has had their fair share of defeats, posting a 3-9 conference record coming into the matchup, but from the get-go, they weren’t going to let the Cyclones walk through their building without a fight.
A very back-and-forth first quarter was put to bed by the Cyclones in the final 1:30 with 6 free throws (4 by Donarski, 2 from Ashley Joens.) Seeing as they’d only shot 10 and 14 in their previous 2 losses, the 8 total in the first quarter was a good thing to see.
