Iowa State University loves to tout its fans as the best in the world. It gets repeated time and again when 50,000 show up to watch a three-win football team, when the fan base takes over the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament or when a coach wants to gain some goodwill with ticket holders.
ISU fans are dedicated and will go to great lengths to support their squad, with college students willing to spend a week in the cold to get better basketball seats. If the administration truly believes it has the best fans around it should do everything it can to protect them by changing a culture where students believe sitting in subzero temperatures is their only option.
