The Iowa State Cyclones are in the Sweet 16 for the second time in three years after handily beating the upstart Little Rock Trojans 78-61.
Both teams came out strong as Iowa State only led the Trojans 21-19 after the first 10 minutes, but the Cyclones closed the first half on a 19-9 run to take a 40-28 lead into the halftime break. Things didn't get any better for UALR in the second half, as a cold shooting night let Iowa State build their lead to as many as 21 points on their way to the easy victory.
Senior Georges Niang was the best player on the court all night, putting up a game-high 28 points to go along with six rebounds. Matt Thomas also chipped in 16 points for the Cyclones.
Josh Hagins scored 31 points to lead Arkansas-Little Rock in their upset win over Purdue on Thursday, but was limited to just eight points tonight. Roger Woods led UALR with 17 points.
Iowa State advances to play the winner of (1) Virginia vs. (9) Butler in Chicago, IL on Friday.
