AUSTIN, Texas -- George Washington outscored the University of Iowa, 12-8, in the second overtime to prevail in a battle of nationally ranked women’s basketball teams, 81-77, in the Lone Star Showcase at Cedar Park Center.
George Washington (6-1 overall), entered the game ranked No. 23 in the country according to the USA Today Coaches Poll; the Hawkeyes (5-1) were 21st. This early season nonconference battle was as close as the rankings.
The Hawkeyes were paced by sophomore center Chase Coley with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She made 8-of-12 field goals, including a 3-pointer at the end of the first half and Iowa’s final field goal with 28 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime tied at 64.
