Sometimes it just...falls apart. A game, a season, it just falls apart before your eyes in stunning, almost comical fashion.
It started so well Friday in the Rose Bowl. A quick UCLA turnover that’s immediately converted into a touchdown. Another turnover after a good UCLA drive (an ominous sign). A beautiful deep ball. More points for Iowa (though a big hit on Brendan Sullivan on a keeper that was short of a first down so Iowa had to settle for a field goal; another sign).
Then it melted with a few terrible turnovers - the game so obviously flipped on Brendan Sullivan’s first interception, a needless pass that likely had Kirk Ferentz yearning for Cade McNamara - and Iowa’s season has officially disintegrated on the back of injuries at quarterback and a defense that has turned into a sieve, the worst tackling Iowa team I can remember.
