THE 1957 ROSE BOWL: ALL YOUR GOALPOSTS HAVE BELONG TO US FOR A LONG TIME

So you probably remember this, right?

Iowa TORE THE DANG GOALPOSTS out of the Metrodome in ebullient celebration of an 8-0 Big Ten campaign (the first-ever in Iowa history to that point) -- and an expected Rose Bowl trip.

Iowa, of course, did not get to go to the Rose Bowl after the 2002 regular season -- bowl politics intervened and Iowa and USC ended up playing a Faux-Rose Bowl in Miami in the Orange Bowl instead.

But it turns out Iowa fans have a long history of going after goalposts when Rose Bowls are involved -- as Andy Hamilton uncovered earlier this week, Iowa fans TORE THE DANG GOALPOSTS DOWN at the Rose Bowl itself the first time they made the trip (1957).
