The University of Iowa announced on Thursday that the school has reached an agreement with Head Baseball Coach Rick Heller, extending his contract through the 2024 season. For anyone that has been following the Hawkeyes on the the baseball diamond, this news was surely met with and ear-to-ear grin.
Heller has been a college baseball coach for 30 seasons at four different universities, and he has completely changed the culture at every stop.
After graduating from Upper Iowa University in 1986, he became the head baseball coach there just two seasons later. After going 17-53 over his first two seasons, he had 10 consecutive winning seasons and 3 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a D-3 College World Series appearance in 1996.
