Megan Gustafson named AP Player of the Year

Megan Gustafson was named by the Associated Press today as the women’s basketball player of the year.

Under the guise of opening fan mail, she found out her award in the best way possible.

BREAKING: Iowa's @GustafsonMeg10 is The AP women's college basketball player of the year.

Gustafson helped the Hawkeyes reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 1993 and led the nation in scoring for the second consecutive year.

Oh, and here’s an updated list of all the awards she’s taken and milestones she’s reached this season:

First-team All-American (AP, USBWA, ESPNW), AP Player of the Year (first Big Ten player ever to be awarded this), ESPNW National Player of the Year, Big Ten Player of the Year, Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player, the Big Ten’s All-Time rebounder, led the NCAA in scoring each of the past two seasons, tied the NCAA record for most double-double’s in a season, Iowa’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, won the Big Ten Player of the Week award 22 times (conference record) and leads the nation in field goal percentage.
