Iowa football entered the 2024 season as a trendy pick to be a stealth playoff contender. The logic was simple: Iowa returned considerable production from an elite defense that carried the team to 10 wins last year despite having one of the worst offenses in college football. If the offense could somehow find a way to be average (or at least not AS bad as it has been the past three years), the team might have a chance to make a run at the postseason. There were certainly questions surrounding Tim Lester’s new offensive scheme, whether Iowa could develop a consistent passing game for the first time in half a decade, and whether there was enough depth on the defensive line to keep that unit playing productively for a full season.
