There was a time when Iowa’s bowl game was the most-anticipated event of my sports year. From the moment the Hawks beat the Gophers (which used to be our last game most years) until the “Granddaddy of Them All” kicked off, I thought of little else. In today’s college football landscape, the teams that made the playoffs are ramping up, while the rest of college football is using this time to restock their cupboards with expensive football players (I mean... student-athletes?). Heck, I believe even playoff teams have guys who have entered the portal but are still on their respective rosters until the completion of the season.
