In Kirk Ferentz’s tenure in Iowa City, the Hawkeyes have faced off against Northern Iowa just four times. Those games, however, have been anything but close. In fact, in 2009 when Iowa went on to make a BCS bowl game, they had to rely on a miracle to escape the game against the Panthers.
Two blocked field goals in the closing seconds is the equivalent of hitting the same number on roulette twice in a row. It’s just so rare. Luckily, they survived that game unscathed, but did fall out of the top 25 for a few weeks.
