The earlier part of this decade saw a lot of crazy movement in conferences. The Big 12 lost Texas A&M, Missouri, and Nebraska. Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers joined the Iowa football team in the Big Ten. In the Northeast, the Big East basically removed football from the equation.
It was a whacky time in college football, and it forever changed the landscape of college football, but one of the big trends and topics at the time was forming a super conference comprised of 16 teams. While that eventually faded away, there is a chance that conference reshuffling could be back at the forefront in just a few years according to ESPN.
