Those were the three Hawkeye seniors who stepped onto Mediacom Court inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the final time on Saturday night, and the team paid them a fitting tribute. Iowa (18-12 overall, 8-10 Big 10) took control of its game against Illinois (9-20, 2-16) early and held on to claim a 61-56 win.
The Hawkeyes outrebounded the Fighting Illini 44-31, held Illinois to under 37 percent while shooting over 42 percent from the field and trailed for only 15 seconds in what was one of Iowa’s most complete wins of the season.
Separate from being Senior Night, this performance couldn’t have come at a better time for the Hawkeyes.
