Iowa (9-12 overall, 2-1 Big 10) used strong starting pitching performances, paired with 12 combined runs, on Friday and Saturday to take the series before failing to reproduce that configuration on Sunday and fall short of the sweep with a 4-1 loss. Overall, however, this weekend was an encouraging sign.
On Friday sophomore CJ Eldred continued to cement his case that right now, he is the Hawkeyes’ best starting pitcher. Eldred pitched a complete game and got the win in the 8-1 Iowa victory. His final line included one run allowed on six hits with nine strikeouts, two walks and a hit batsmen.
