The Hawkeyes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and sophomore starter CJ Eldred was cruising through the Maverick lineup.
Then Iowa’s bats suddenly went to sleep.
Iowa went on to manage only two hits through the game’s final eight innings, and Eldred eventually surrendered three runs as the Mavericks rallied to defeat the Hawkeyes 3-2.
The game began with a bunt single by Iowa senior Joel Booker. After junior Mason McCoy popped out, senior Nick Roscetti hit his first home run of the season to give the Hawkeyes a 2-0 lead before Eldred took the mound.
