Just over two years ago Brian Ferentz was hit with a question about making a change at quarterback and giving the more mobile Alex Padilla a look at QB in place of the statue-esque Spencer Petras. His, somewhat, glib response was “What would be the upside?”
Two years and what seems like half a dozen QBs later, we finally got to see the impact a mobile quarterback could make and while it was far from perfect, there was a whole lot more upside than downside, and while the change didn’t lead to immediate success (3 straight 3 and outs with some, ummm, very conservative - read chickenshit - playcalling), by the 4th series there was definitely something growing and with 46 seconds left in the 1st half, it bore fruit:
Now, it may not be obvious to the casual football fan (not that anyone reading this is a casual fan) but Sullivan’s presence (and his scampers on the previous 3 drives) causes NW’s DE Anto Saka (#4) to freeze for just a split-second and that is all that KJ2 needs to get to the second level.
