Four Hawkeyes earned all-American honors as the final set of teams recognized by the NCAA to determined consensus and unanimous honors were announced Wednesday. Jay Higgins and Kaleb Johnson snared first-team honors from Sporting News, while Kaden Wetjen was second-team.
The first-team designation from Sporting News led to a sweep for Higgins, earning him unanimous first-team honors from all five of the main publications recognized by the NCAA to earn unanimous honors (Sporting News, AP, Football Writers Association of America, American Football Coaches Association, and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.) Somehow, despite being a unanimous All-American, Higgins did not make the finalists for the Butkus Award.
