The former Iowa Hawkeye cornerback Desmond King was selected by the L.A. Chargers in the 5th round of the 2017 NFL Draft on Saturday.
King was the 2015 Thorpe Award winner as the best defensive back in college football and was one of the better overall players in the country during the last two seasons.
He arrived in Iowa City as a three-star corner out of Detroit with a slew of offers from MAC schools. His only Power 5 offers came from the Big Ten Conference, with Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa all in the mix.
