Of all the teams that have joined the B1G in the last 20 years Maryland makes the least sense to me. Rutgers didn’t make much sense either, but Rutgers at least feels like a B1G type school, being located in a small “college town” and comes with some built in ties to real football history (not to mention the New York City media market and it’s attendant advertising rates). But Maryland? It’s a basketball school with a pretty bad football legacy in a place that’s close to a major metro (DC) one that will never have the cache of Richmond, Blacksburg, or even Annapolis.
