53 Hawkeyes Earn Spring Academic All-Big Ten Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Fifty-three University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2016 Spring Academic All-Big Ten team, the conference office announced Wednesday. The list includes student-athletes from rowing (20), baseball (5), men’s golf (2), women’s golf (3), softball (8), men’s tennis (2), women’s tennis (2), men’s track and field (6) and women’s track and field (5).

The 20 rowing honorees are the most for the program since 2009, while the eight softball and five baseball selections are the most since 2013.

A total of 1,537 students competing in spring and at-large sports were honored, including 140 in baseball, 153 in softball, 174 in women’s rowing, 64 in men’s and 64 in women’s golf, 82 in men’s and 90 in women’s lacrosse, 63 in men’s and 76 in women’s tennis, 186 in men’s and 228 in women’s track and field and 50 in men’s (representing fencing, rifle and pistol, rowing and volleyball) and 167 in women’s (representing bowling, fencing, ice hockey, lightweight rowing, rifle and pistol, sand volleyball, synchronized swimming and water polo) at-large sports

At least 23 students competing in spring and at-large sports have maintained unblemished cumulative GPAs, including Iowa rower Skylar McSorley.
