Vancouver Whitecaps striker Masato Kudo was taken to the hospital Wednesday after a violent collision with Chicago Fire goalkeeper Matt Lampson.
The Japanese forward appeared to be knocked unconscious in the 11th minute at BC Place as he absorbed a blow from Lampson while chasing a Matias Laba long ball. He eventually rose to his feet and was carted off the field, with Blas Perez replacing him in the 19th minute.
The Whitecaps confirmed at halftime that Kudo was being taken to Vancouver General Hospital, describing the 26-year-old as "alert and aware.
