It lacked the drama of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's debut for the LA Galaxy, but Wayne Rooney's made his first showing in MLS on Saturday night, playing just over half an hour and picking up an assist in 3-1 win for D.C. United as the club opened its new home, the 20,000 seat Audi Field.
The former Manchester United and Everton star was not among the starters on Saturday and was watching on as his new team jumped into the lead through Yamil Asad just 22 minutes into the match against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Rooney made his entrance just before the hour mark with United still just a goal in front and played a part in his new club extending its lead.
