The Atlanta United forward scored his 28th goal of the season, breaking a record set in 1996
Josef Martinez has shattered the MLS record for most goals in a season, scoring his 28th of 2018 for Atlanta United against Orlando City.
The star forward entered the contest needing just a single tally to break a 23-year-old record that had been equaled but never bested.
The first goal of the contest did not fall to Martinez, as his team-mate Leandro Gonzalez Pirez gave Atlanta an early lead with a goal in the 21st minute.
Orlando City would equalizer later in the first half behind Scott Sutter, setting the stage for Martinez to make history.
