Ukraine 0-2 Northern Ireland: O'Neill's men secure famous win

The Green and White Army got their Euro 2016 campaign up and running with a deserved win over their Group C counterparts in the pouring rain in Lyon on Thursday evening

Northern Ireland secured their first ever win at a European Championship finals with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine at Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday.

Gareth McAuley rose above his man to bullet home the Green and White Army's first goal at a major international tournament for 30 years from Oliver Norwood's free-kick.

Ukraine forced Michael McGovern into making a couple of saves as they chased an equaliser, before Niall McGinn struck in the dying seconds of six minutes of additional time to make sure of the points for Northern Ireland.
