The center back has spent his entire career with the Magpies, making more than 190 career Premier League appearances.
The Portland Timbers announced the signing of longtime Newcastle United center back Steven Taylor on Monday.
Taylor, 30, joins the Timbers after spending 13 seasons with Newcastle. His time with the club ended after it was relegated to the Championship following last year's Premier League season.
"Steven Taylor gives us a proven piece that can step into our back line and perform immediately,” Portland coach Caleb Porter said in a club release. "His experience and leadership will be very important to our team down the stretch.
