Following an incredibly entertaining game of football, Salzburg start their Champions League campaign in style with a superb victory over Genk. The home side opened the scoring after just two minutes when Haland beat Coucke from close range, before the forward then doubled the lead on 34 minutes. Hee-Chan made it three after 36 minutes, but Lucumi pulled one back four minutes later when he headed Ndongala’s cross beyond Stankovic. Haland then grabbed his hat-trick on the brink of half time, and Szoboszlai made it five four minutes before the break. Shortly after the restart, Samatta steered Bongonda’s cross beyond Stankovic to give the visitors hope, but Salzburg completed the scoring on 66 minutes when Ulmer combined with Junuzovic to restore the hosts’ four goal cushion.
