After a 3-6-3 start left the club in ninth place in the Western Conference, the defending MLS Cup champion has added the versatile defender-midfielder.
The Portland Timbers have signed defender-midfielder Amobi Okugo, who was a free agent after being released by Sporting Kansas City in the preseason.
Okugo, 25, made 117 appearances (101 starts) with Philadelphia from 2010 to 2014 after the Union made him the sixth overall pick of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft out of UCLA.
After leaving Philadelphia, Okugo found playing time more difficult to come by in a half-season with Orlando City and then Sporting KC.
