Nabil Maaloul has joined Qatari league champions Al Duhail after terminating his contract with Tunisia.
The former Tunisia international guided his country to their fifth World Cup appearance this year and led them to an unprecedented 14th place in April’s Fifa rankings.
At the global tournament in Russia, the Carthage Eagles managed a 2-1 win over Panama but initial defeats to England and Belgium respectively dampened their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
The early exit means Tunisia have never survived the group stage of a World Cup since their debut appearance in 1978.
However, Maaloul is set for the new challenge in a familiar region as he takes over from Djamel Belmadi who guided the Red Knights to a domestic treble - Qatar Stars League, Qatar Cup and Emir of Qatar Cup - last season.
