MLS Review: Martinez continues record scoring pace, LA clubs run riot

Josef Martinez was at it again on Saturday night, scoring from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win for Atlanta United against the Philadelphia Union.

It was the 18th time in 20 matches that the Venezuela national team member has found the net, putting him on a record pace for MLS single-season goals.

Roy Lassiter (1996), Chris Wondolowski (2012) and Bradley Wright-Phillips (2014) are the join record holders for single-season scoring in the league having each hit 27 goals in a season.

Martinez still has plenty of work to do and will need to strike 10 times in the last 14 games of the season to top the all-time scoring mark, but that total seems well withing reach.
