There was no ninth League Cup triumph for Liverpool, nor a first trophy in English football for Jurgen Klopp. Penalties, which had twice worked in its favor already in the competition this season against Carlisle in the first round and Stoke in the semifinal, had no happy ending at Wembley.
It was Manchester City with the silver lining and champagne-soaked scenes after the shootout.
