The Boys in Green assistant manager says that the Stoke City striker's fitness is being monitored and stressed that his conversations with players would remain private
Roy Keane says that the Republic of Ireland will give Jonathan Walters an extra few days to prove his fitness ahead of Ireland’s Group E opener against Sweden.
The Boys in Green play Erik Hamren’s side at the Stade de France on Monday June 13, but could be without Walters, who has not trained since last Thursday with an achilles injury.
The Stoke City forward was instrumental during Ireland’s qualifying campaign, scoring five goals - including a double against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the play-offs - and Keane claims that the 32-year-old has “earned” extra time to recover.
