Abel Xavier - formerly of PSV Eindhoven, Everton, Liverpool and the LA Galaxy - has been named as Mozambique's new national team coach.
Former PSV Eindhoven, Everton, Liverpool and LA Galaxy defender Abel Xavier has been appointed coach of African nation Mozambique.
The 20-time Portuguese international's career spanned a total of 28 years, starting at Portuguese minnows Estrela da Amadora in 1990 before moving to Benfica in 1993, and then finishing in MLS with the LA Galaxy in 2008.
Xavier was unveiled to reporters Monday and gave a positive review of his new team, which sits 109th in the most recent FIFA rankings, but has never qualified for the World Cup.
