There was a time when CONCACAF had a significant and oftentimes toxic influence on FIFA politics.
While its 35 votes are less than that of UEFA (53), the Asian Football Confederation (46), and the Confederation of African Football (54), it amounted to a big enough bloc of votes to grab the attention of FIFA presidential candidates. The dynamic was also evident when it came to deciding World Cup hosts, with CONCACAF having three seats on FIFA's then 24-person executive committee.
This was especially true during the heyday of the now disgraced duo of former CONCACAF president Jack Warner and the confederation's former general secretary Chuck Blazer.
