The Hermann Trophy winner becomes the club's ninth homegrown player.
D.C. United has announced the signing of midfielder Ian Harkes as a homegrown player.
Harkes, the son of former DCU and U.S. national team captain John, joins after spending four years at Wake Forest University. His collegiate career was capped off this year when he won the MAC Hermann Trophy, given to the country's best college soccer player.
“I’ve known Ian nearly his entire life and have watched him develop into one of the nation’s best young talents." DCU head coach Ben Olsen said in a club release.
