Daniel Amokachi explains why Morocco bid for 2026 World Cup flopped

Nigerian legend Daniel Amokachi believes failure to secure a united African vote was the reason why Morocco’s bid to host 2026 World Cup failed.

Morocco lost out to a joint bid fronted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico, who will now host the global sporting showpiece in eight years' time.

Of the 211 Fifa member nations, 200 cast a vote at the 68th Fifa Congress in Moscow on Wednesday, with the winners needing a majority of 104. Eleven African countries among them South Africa, failed to vote for the Morocco bid.

Others countries are Guinea, Liberia, Benin, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique and Namibia.
