Clarence Goodson set for season-ending back surgery

The San Jose Earthquakes center back will undergo surgery Thursday to repair a herniated disc in his back.

San Jose Earthquakes defender Clarence Goodson will undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back, the club announced Wednesday, with the 34-year-old confirming he will be sidelined for the rest of 2016.

Goodson started the first two matches of the season but has not played since March 13. This marks the second time in three years Goodson has seen a campaign derailed by injury after a sprained toe limited him to 10 matches in 2014.
