Zamalek have ended their pursuit of Morocco striker Ayoub El-Kaabi following interest in the RS Berkane player from China.
El-Kaabi appeared to be headed to Zamalek, who are reported to have tabled a $2.5 million proposal until an unnamed Chinese club outbid them with a $6.5 million offer.
The 25-year-old was at the World Cup in Russia on the backdrop of some terrific form this year. He netted 10 goals in eight games for the Atlas Lions by March.
With the Chinese club beating Zamalek to the signature, a move to the Super League is now imminent according to Zamalek president Mortada Mansour on LTC TV.
