The lowest scoring team in MLS aims to boost its attack with the former Eredivisie forward.
The Chicago Fire have announced the signing of FC Groningen forward Michael de Leeuw, who has joined the club on a three-year contract with an option for 2019.
De Leeuw was acquired for an undisclosed amount of targeted allocation money. The Fire also paid out $50,000 in general allocation money to the Philadelphia Union, who owned the forward’s discovery rights.
The 29-year old forward has spent the last four seasons with Groningen, with his best campaign coming in 2014-15, when he scored 17 goals in 28 league appearances.
