Canada hits three against El Salvador but World Cup qualifying campaign is over

Canada ends its World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-1 win but its inability to score enough goals throughout the campaign proved costly.

VANCOUVER — There were many permutations that would have seen Canada advance to the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on Tuesday, but the simplest of those was that it had to score and score often against El Salvador in Vancouver, and look for a little helping hand from Mexico to get them over the line.

Goals from Cyle Larin, Nik Ledgerwood, and David Edgar gave Canada a 3-1 victory on the night, but with Mexico only able to draw 0-0 with Honduras in the other Group A match, it meant the Hondurans advanced to the six-team final round — the "Hex" — by a single point.
