The Toronto FC midfielder denied speculation his absence was a mutual call between him and Canada coach Benito Floro.
Will Johnson’s absence for Canada’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and El Salvador was not his choice, according to the midfielder.
Johnson has recently returned from a tibial plateau fracture and was left off Canada’s roster for its final two matches of the penultimate round of qualification. There had been speculation, based off quotes given by national team coach Benito Floro to MLSsoccer.com, the decision had been mutual between coach and player.
“My experience with him is positive because I consider him an honest professional,” said Floro to MLSsoccer.
