The Italy international was given a hero's welcome as he pulled up at the club's Casa Milan training base, where he will undergo a medical and finalise his transfer from the Serie A champions.
The move appears to be a huge coup for Milan, who only finished sixth in Italy's top flight but have still managed to convince one of Europe's top defenders to join them.
