Ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup, Alfio Basile has given his assessment of Argentina’s Group D oppositions, and while praising Nigeria, he highlighted their defence as the weak link.
Basile - the coach who masterminded La Albiceleste’s win over the Super Eagles at the 1994 edition of the tournament - stated that the West Africans are ‘very good’ but accused their defence of distraction.
A similar problem was witnessed when Gernot Rohr's men squared up against the South American giants in November. While they surprisingly ran out winners, the first half of the tie highlighted some less-assured displays from the backline, thus, condemning the three-time African champions to a two-goal deficit, before they fought back to seal a 4-2 victory.
