Despite his fan base’s and local media’s fair share of angst, Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard remained ‘bullish’ on his young secondary all offseason—electing to trust his internal developmental process, over bringing in outside veteran reinforcements.
While the Colts saw their AFC South division rivals, Tennessee Titans, add both cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (via trade) and veteran safety Quandre Diggs (free agency), Indianapolis quietly stood pat.
They would later do the same for another pair of readily available veteran free agent defensive backs, safety Justin Simmons, who signed with the Atlanta Falcons on a 1-year, $7.5M deal, as well as familiar face cornerback Stephon Gilmore—who signed a 1-year, $7M deal with the Minnesota Vikings—both very late in the offseason.
