INDIANAPOLIS — The way Vic Fangio remembers it, Frank Reich owes him dinner, and the Colts coach has owed him for almost a quarter century.
Fangio was the first defensive coordinator in the history of the Carolina Panthers, and Reich was Carolina’s first pick.
The second week of the season, the Panthers headed up to Reich’s old stomping grounds in Buffalo, and Reich laid down a challenge for Fangio’s defense centered on his old teammate, Bills quarterback Jim Kelly.
“He said if we picked off Kelly three times, he’d buy me dinner at any restaurant,” Fangio said.
